I'm Engaged!

Ladies, I'm engaged! I'm so excited I couldn't even start a proper introduction to this blog post! It actually happened 2 weeks ago on Sunday, August 19, 2012 and it's been a whirlwind ever since! Giiiirrrrls let me tell me how he did it!

I had been dating Jonathan for about three years, and honestly, I was beginning to wonder if we were ever going to get engaged. I decided to just stop worrying about it so much and wait for my time to come.

On the weekend of our three year dating anniversary, I had a little sleepover with my two best friends, Tomecia and Shantel. We bonded over Bridezilla re-runs, polishing our nails, doing our hair...all that good stuff. After I finished polishing my finger nails, I remember saying "Wow, my nails look really pretty. All I need to complete the look is an engagement ring!" Little did I know, in less than 24 hours, that was exactly what I was going to get.

We woke up that Sunday morning and enjoyed some breakfast. Tomecia went running errands with her Fiance, of which I thought nothing of, since she's always ditching us for her soon to be! Me and Shantel watched Spongebob re-runs. Shantel had work the next morning and I was starting to miss my rabbits so it was time to get ready to go home. I showered, took Tomecia's rollers out of my hair, stole a better shirt from Shantel and put on a little make-up. I planned on doing NONE of this since I was only going home, but Shantel's mom insisted that I make myself a little more presentable, as there's a possibility I could run into my worst enemy outside. So, rolling my eyes, I got dolled up. And as usually, Shanny invited herself to my house since she didn't feel like staying home.

Shantel and I hitched a ride with Jarette & Churece, my sister and her best friend, since they were headed to my house from a nearby Target. After a full interrogation from Jarette & Churece as to why I looked so nice since I was only going home, we parked in front of the house. We got out and walked up my stairs, and I could hear "Gibberish" by Ryan Leslie playing inside my house. My heart started beating, because this was me and Jonathan's favorite song. I thought to myself "Is this gonna be a proposal?” I even said to Jarette, "What is Shawn (my brother-in-law) doing playing Ryan Leslie?” Jarette opens the door, and I follow, speechless to find my friends and family hold up signs that read "Gabrielle, Will You Marry Me?" and Jonathan on bended knee with a red rose bouquet with this beautiful ring in the middle. Before Jonathan could even say those four words, I blurted out "YES!"

Jon got up from his knee, we embraced and I demanded he take the ring off the bouquet and out it on my finger! It was the happiest day of my life.

Jonathan, friends, family and I spent the rest of the night drinking, laughing and talking about all the little red flags I missed leading up to this moment; a moment I will never forget!
